Yahoo! announces slashing of 2000 jobs

In a news release simply titled “Yahoo! Statement” , Yahoo! announced that “approximately 2,000 people will be notified of job elimination or phased transition.”

Relatively new CEO, Scott Thompson made the announcement that the actions are needed to steer Yahoo! into its next incarnation – “smaller, nimbler, more profitable and better equipped to innovate as our customers and our industry require.” Replacing Carol Bartz, this action seems to be the biggest action Scott Thompson has taken so far in his tenure besides having Jerry Yang resign from everything.

Where exactly Yahoo! is headed, besides the patent lawsuit business, is unknown. The company seems to be making valiant efforts in revamping and drawing new clients for its advertising business. Yahoo! recently announced its planned global implementation of Do Not Track for this Summer.

Yahoo! expects to realize approximately $375 million of annualized savings upon completion of all employee transitions. The company currently expects to recognize the majority of an estimated $125 to $145 million pretax cash charge relating to employee severance in its second quarter financial results. The company may incur additional charges in connection with this action. More information will be provided about Yahoo!’s future direction in conjunction with the release of its first quarter financial results on April 17, 2012.

It wasn’t all numbers for the CEO though.
